Carousel Dance School Linda Luckstead's 20-year dream of establishing a ballet company in Clinton, her hometown, became a reality in 1983.
Luckstead had discovered ballet as a child, when she began taking dance classes in Clinton. As a teen, she continued her studies in Chicago and New York City. In Chicago, she studied at the Allegro School and Stone-Camryn; in New York, it was with the Ballet Theatre (now American Ballet Theatre) and Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, as a private student of Marie Swoboda.
Her jazz training was with Gus Giordano in Chicago and Buzz Cooper in New York City. Later she took dance classes from Master Karlov Zsedenvi, Robert Barnett of the Atlanta Ballet, Fred Matthews of New York City, and Lynn Taylor-Corbett.
In addition to her extensive choreographic repertoire for Gateway Contemporary Ballet, Luckstead has choreographed musicals for Clinton High School (since 1976), Pleasant Valley High School (since 1995), Timberlake Playhouse, and the Clinton Area Showboat Theater. She was Carousel Dance School of the Quad-City Civic Ballet from 1981 to 1983.
Most recently, she has choreographed and staged a full-length ballet especially for children entitled "Alifair's Apology" which features all of the fairies who protect children and most of all - Alifair - the tooth fairy. This ballet as well as three divertissements are currently being marketed by Ms. Luckstead.
Ms. Luckstead's lifelong commitment to the art of dance continues as Gateway Contemporary Ballet reaches out to larger audiences and ever expanding horizons.
